The Spark

In the summer of 2025, my family and I were eagerly waiting for our new puppy to be born. Like any family, we followed every update. But as the weeks passed, my perspective shifted from an excited buyer to an observant software product manager.

I looked behind the curtain of the program bringing our puppy into the world and saw a system pushed to its absolute limits. Ethical breeding is not a hobby; it is a highly rigorous scientific and logistical operation. To bring one healthy puppy into the world, the breeder was managing complex genetic pairings, strict compliance, and around-the-clock neonatal care—armed with nothing but three-ring binders and fragmented spreadsheets.

In my professional life, I lead product management for enterprise AI experiences. I spend my days designing software that takes chaotic data and heavy administrative burdens and turns them into streamlined, intelligent workflows. I was stunned to see that the people responsible for the health and lineage of our closest companions were entirely ignored by modern technology.

The Problem We Saw

The software landscape for breeders is stuck in the era of digital filing cabinets—record storage, not intelligence.

When an inspector arrives or a careful buyer asks detailed questions, even the most diligent breeders spend hours pulling together records. Meanwhile, the data breeders collect every day—health tests, pedigrees, temperament observations—sits siloed and underutilized. Patterns that could improve welfare and elevate breeding decisions remain invisible.

We realized that if we want to protect the future of purpose-bred dogs, we have to protect the time and sanity of the people breeding them.
